My Story
Back in 2017 me, my uncle and brother embarked on a long weekend away, in coming back something clicked with my uncle and he realised how he should look after himself and start getting fit. He started by walking a bit but quickly had a idea in his head, he wanted a target so he signed up to run the London marathon 2018, and run it for shelter a charity close to his heart, ones that helped him in his younger days when he needed them, this is his way of giving something back.
He smashed his £2000 target and raised so much money for shelter, extremely happy with himself this is where he said he wanted to run the London marathon with me one day, I agreed and said it would be amazing. He went even bigger for preparations for the 2019 race and got together a team of 5 people from Hailsham, I was a part of that, this was a way of outdoing what he had done and raising even more money for his beloved charity.
Unfortunately I broke my foot at the back end if 2018 and as I didn't know what kind of state i was going to be in come April 2019 I had to pull out of the marathon, doctors said I would never be able to run a marathon. The rest of the group went on to complete it. As it was getting closer and closer I realised I would of been able to participate but it was too late to get back in to it, because my uncle still wanted to run the London marathon with me he managed to get us both a place in the 2020 race.
It was at this point we decided we would do another one together first and no better marathon than the original marathon in Athens, Greece, we trained to compete in that and completed it November 2019. We had a little break then continued to train ahead of London 2020 and was dealt with a massive blow the massive pandemic put everything on hold once again.
We finally got the go ahead of a date and that we would be racing October 2021 and unfortunately mid way through the year my uncle had a freakish accident and ended up breaking both of his arms and he himself had to pull out I went on to run it myself raising over 2 grand alone. Thankfully shelter have managed to let us both defer our place once again to the 2022 race so we can confirm we will eventually get to achieve our goal of running the London marathon together for a once and once only time.
We ask you to dig deep please and help us along our way in supporting this amazing charity and raising the money needed. A massive thankyou to everyone who donated before, and please get behind me as I personally will be going out to beat last year's time and I know I will do it.
Thanks for reading, let's smash this together x
