My Story

I am fundraising for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) on behalf of my son, Cobie Jake, who was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma at 13 weeks and 3 days old, in August 2020.

Cobie had to have surgery to insert a central venous line (CVL) which is a tube to administer chemotherapy and to draw bloods to check his levels. (This was surgically removed March 2021)

He had 6 rounds of chemotherapy (Aug'20 -Jan'21) alongside Lazer treatment which uses heat to target the tumors in his eyes and cryotherapy which is used to freeze the tumors.

Cobie is still undergoing 7-8 week visits to Birmingham Children's Hospital, to be put under anesthesia and his eyes thoroughly checked and treated if needs be.

Cobie is blind in his left eye due to his tumors and a formed cateract due to the Laser treatment. But his right eye is fully functioning and developing as it should.

I want to bring a medal home to him and make him proud of me as I am of him. I am in awe of his strength throughout all his treatments and procedures. He really is my strength and saviour.

I would also like to dedicate my run for all the children and families that are affected by this type of cancer. It is heartbreaking to not only watch your child go through this but the amount of other children as well.

Thank you so so much for all your support, you'll never know how much it truly means to me.
