Josh Cobb Mission London Marathon

My Story
Running a marathon has been a lifelong ambition and being able to fundraise for a charity I work closely with to support vulnerable families in my hometown is a blessing.
I recently ran the Hackney Half Marathon in May 22 and have accepted my mission to beat the London Marathon in April 23 (at which point my trainers will be retired for at least a few months).
I was introduced to the West London Action for Children (WLAC) team to help organise their annual art auction event, Postcards Anonymous, which successfully raised over £10,000 in 2021 and we are set for repeated success again this year hosting the event at Television Centre in West London. Working with the team on this project it was instantly clear the importance of their work in West London to improve the wellbeing of children.
WLAC helps children find their confidence, through one-to-one counselling and in group programmes, allowing children and young people to express themselves and importantly be listened to in a calm and safe setting.
In addition, WLAC offers free and confidential therapy and counselling to parents, carers and grandparents of children and young people. This includes incredible programmes like Dads Matter forward-looking solution focussed group for Dads, Step-dads and male carers, and ParenTalk, a six week therapist-run guided course on successful parenting.
WLAC values the support of its volunteers and fundraisers immensely and being able to extend my involvement by fundraising through the London Marathon is a motivating opportunity to help.
While the charity has been successfully supporting families in need since 1917, the current climate in the UK means families in London are struggling financially and emotionally every day. I’ve personally relied on therapy and counselling in the past and I know the profoundly positive affect it can have on family relationships. We cannot underestimate the benefits that free counselling and therapy has for vulnerable people.
The work WLAC is undertaking is more important than ever and by supporting the wellbeing of children in the local area they are paving the way for a brighter London for years to come.
Any support you can provide the charity by sponsoring my marathon efforts is immensely appreciated and I hope anyone that does can come and support on the day - And meet me for a beer at the finish line!
