My Story
I have been very fortunate to be given the opportunity to run the London marathon on 2nd October 2022 to raise money for Compass Wellbeing.
Having previously raised money for large national charities, I feel passionate about raising money for a local charity from my home town Taunton.
Compass Wellbeing is part of Taunton based charity Compass Disability Services. Compass Wellbeing provides services and facilities that aims to reduce the negative impacts of social isolation, exclusion and loneliness. There are many reasons why people might feel isolated or excluded, disability being only one them. These feelings may no doubt be heightened following the pandemic. Young parents can often feel isolated when new to parenthood, older people can feel lonely when others from their family and generation pass away, disabled people and those with challenging behaviour can feel excluded from social opportunities such as a nights out or visits to a local bar or café and people on a low income often find social activities beyond their means. Whatever the reason Compass Wellbeing aims to provide activities such as a Stay and Play Toddler group or Anything but Ordinary Daytime Disco and facilities such as a Hydropool and Wellbeing Café, where people feel welcome, safe, included and where affordability is always a key consideration.
I have previously run Exeter, Taunton and Newport Marathons and I feel very privileged to have this "bucket list" opportunity for such a worthy cause.
I really appreciate that the cost of living has risen substantially recently so any donation will be gratelly received towards Compass Wellbeing.
Thank you, Andy
