My Story

I did it! London Marathon 2022 completed in 5 hours and 26 minutes!

Those of you who know me will be very aware of Bodies Story and why as a family we support this charity.  I was working with Nick when tragedy struck, the strength Bodie and his family displayed was an inspiration.  The work that they have gone onto do supporting bereaved families in my local area shows that the legacy of Bodie lives on.  Having run numerous charity evernts for the charity this was the chance to do the big one!

This is not just the story of a normal person doing something extraordinary.... as some of you will know i have a few, what shall we say, issues!  I have had 5 operations on my right knee, after operation 3 I was told running proabably wasnt sensible (or any sport for that matter) but exercise is important... at operation 5 i finally gave up on badminton and now run (sometimes a lot and sometimes not much!) alongside cycling and hockey.  Thats nothing special i hear you say.... well i am also a insulin dependant diabetic, i have been for thirty years.  I moved onto an insulin pump system abiout 7 years ago, this helped with sport but I would still need 50grams (2 bottles of lucozade) every 4-5 miles to keep going, this makes long runs hard!  Why this year, well i am one of about 750 people in teh uk on a closed loop pump system, my year-lonmg trial finishes about a week after the marathon, if you are going to trial a system then you should do it properly i think!  It is also importnat to show everyone (i am a headteacher so especially my pupils!) that a disability can be overcome, it shouldnt define who you are or stop you doing things so here is the challenge.....

Over the course of the next 6 moths I am going to try and compete in a multitude of races and events to hopefully cover races at all recognised long distances.

5000m - Hastings High School 007 Parkrun 27:27 (In a Tuxedo!)

10000m - chase the sun Coventry 1:02

1/2 Marathon - Birmingham Half Marathon 2:19:46

Full Marathon - London 5:26:34

I will update the above as and when i do them (errrm first race is the Birmingham half marathon unless i can get a parkrun in before then! - did i mention i am part of the core team at Hastings High School Parkrun?)

If you could be bothered to read all that surely you want to donate right? Every pound helps! With every donation please pick a song for the running playlist so i think of you when it comes on!
