My Story
9th October 2019, I opened the post to discover I had won a place in the ballot for the April 2020 London Marathon. I couldn't have been more excited and then COVID-19 affected us all. I finally have the opportunity to undertake this personal challenge on 2nd October 2022, almost three years on.
With a backlog of events, I have already completed my third L'Etape du Tour de France and my first full Ironman in Sweden this Summer.
I have raised money for Maggie's before and had the pleasure to meet some of their team as well as personally knowing beneficiaries of their incredible free support for people with cancer and their families.
I understand times are difficult but the smallest of contributions goes a long way in the hands of this fantastic charity.
As for my personal challenge, I last ran the London Marathon in 1996, when it took me 4:23, albeit the day after playing in a football Cup semi-final. I ran a marathon at the end of my recent Ironman and was delighted with my time of 5:17 and that was after a 3.8km swim and a 180km bike ride.
On the 2nd October, I will be inspired by those around me, their personal stories and the crowd and be fully motivated to complete the course to raise whatever we're able to for Maggie's. Hopefully you can help.
