My Story

Hi, I’m Simon and I’ve signed up for the London Marathon in order to show my support to my nephew Alfie-J and all of the IBD warriors out there.

Family means everything to me, so when my nephew Alfie-J was cruelly diagnosed with Crohns Disease at just 4 years old it devastated the whole family. To see the suffering that that Little boy goes through, and will continue to go through on a daily basis for the rest of his life made me want to try and help and provide more support to hopefully find breakthroughs in the fight against Crohns and Colitis, not just for Alf but for the hundreds of thousands of other people who also have to live like this. I have to be honest I didn’t know a lot about Crohns previous to Alf's diagnosis - A lifelong chronic inflammatory disease currently with no cure - but as a family we soon found out what suffering the disease brings. Tummy pain, 30+ toilet trips a day, chronic fatigue, infections, constant blood tests and infusions, various medications and A&E trips are just some of the battles I have seen our little hero go through, even if it was and still is with a constant smile on his face.

What the future holds for Alfie is uncertain and there isn’t a lot I can do for him and the many others who suffer with this illness but offer my support and try and do my bit in the battle against Crohns and Colitis. So I thought why not try raise as much money as we can for Crohns and Colitis UK to help in the fight against this cruel and debilitating disease so one day people like my nephew can lead a more comfortable, better way of life 💜💪🏼
