My Story

Here is a little about me.

Hi, my name is Simon, sign name: sssh, and I am raising £2,000 for an incredible school that I work at, Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children, through their charity partner, Friends of Blanche Nevile. Also, luckily, I am crazy enough to attempt my first marathon.

Why am I fundraising for Friends of Blanche Nevile?

Deaf education matters and every deaf child should have a right to quality education. Nelson Mandela sums it up best; 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.'. Friends of Blanche Nevile is a charity for Blanche Nevile School with an aim to provide facilities, experiences and equipment for Deaf children through fundraising, contributions and grants that the local authorities do not provide. I hope to raise £2,000 so Friends of Blanche Nevile can ensure that Deaf children do not miss out.

About Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children.

Blanche Nevile School delivers a bilingual child-centred curriculum. Blanche Nevile School offers Deaf children the opportunity to interact and play with their hearing peers as Blanche Nevile Primary and Secondary are each co-located with two excellent mainstream partner schools in North London. Blanche Nevile School has high expectations for every Deaf child and ensures they get the best opportunity for their future.

Why a marathon?

As some of you may know, I relish doing challenges, and I started parkrunning when I made the big move to London from Newcastle in August 2021 to begin my first teaching job at Blanche Nevile Primary. Since then, I have continued participating in local park runs and did my first 10k at Vitality 10000 in London earlier this May. So, when Friends of Blanche Nevile informed the staff and families that there was a spot available for the London marathon, I signed up immediately, but I can assure you that I am not lying when I say that I have no regrets. Errrr, maybe?

One more thing you should know.

I welcome every opportunity to make this a fun challenge and to bring a little laughter into our busy lives. I want to hear from you if you have got a suggestion. For example, if someone decides to donate a specific threshold, such as £50, I will allow the donor to suggest what uniform I will wear for one full day at school, as long it is age-appropriate! I welcome your suggestions. Just get in touch with me! I hope to organise events to meet my fundraising target in the coming months!
