My Story

Hello, my name is Nathaniel and I am running the 2022 London Marathon for UCLH!

UCLH is a great cause that I’ve become close to most recently.

One day at work recently I had a pain in the top left of my chest. It was strange as I was healthy; I eat well and exercise often too. This knife-like feeling would come and stay for minutes or hours and I had no clue what was causing it. I didn’t think much of it, but one night it changed.

I was at work again, sat at a computer when again this pain came over me, but this time it was different. It felt worse this time. I tried distracting myself by reading words on the screen, re-reading them again to tell myself I was fine but I couldn’t stop thinking about the pain. Within minutes I struggled to breathe, half of my body was shaking, and my face was pale as ever. I naturally started to panic, wondering what was happening to me. My friend helped me to the nearest hospital, UCLH andI was rushed through and was in a bed in resus within minutes.

Multiple heart scans, x-rays, and tests later, I was back to normal and I can’t be more grateful. Hospitals are not a nice place when you’re scared and alone and wondering what is happening to you but everyone there was extraordinary. They were so empathetic, quick to respond, and so good helping me get back to 100%.
This year, I’m running for them to raise money, to say thank you for all the work they have done for me and countless others.
