My Story

I've worked in children's surgery for more than 20 years and so have seen at first hand the challenges that life-long disabilities bring to people and their families. You may not have heard of the Snowdon Trust - they are a relatively small charity that empowers disabled students in higher education.

Snowdon Trust grants fund things that most of us take as read, but which can be a real challenge. Things like the extra cost of accessible accommodation – because yes, its more expensive, and there’s not enough of it. They fund BSL interpreters, specialist equipment like screen-reader software, wheelchairs, and accommodation for carers so that students can live away from home and fully experience university life. And from there, students can hopefully achieve their career goals. Those who know me well will know all of this is something I feel very passionately about.

And so when I was asked to run a marathon to raise much needed funds for them, how could I say no?

Well...can I really run a marathon to raise awareness and some of the funds needed for these grants? Of course, anyone reading this and who has seen me play sport might have some serious reservations about me getting through 26.2 miles. But any donations will carry me over the line I'm sure. All I can say is I'm training as hard as I can and will give it my best shot.

Please support me if you can, it would mean a lot, and I promise I'll get a photo of me on the finishing line for your entertainment!
