My Story

My name is Matilda Mills and I am running the London 2022 Marathon.

I grew up with one brother and one sister. My sisters name is Molly and she has a disability called ‘Myotonic Dystrophy’. With Molly’s disability comes learning difficulties and special needs, showing multiple traits of autism. I always knew Molly was different but I loved her more than anyone else and I’ll be forever grateful I get to share my life with someone as wonderful as Molly.

Molly enabled me to realise that in my life I want to give to others just like her so therefore knew I wanted to go down the career path of working with young adults and children who have special needs and disabilities. I worked as a carer for young adults with Autism from the age of 16 to 21 whilst studying at School and University. Supporting these adults with their independent living brought a different aspect to my life everyday and I loved every minute of it. Being able to support them in their life and bringing a smile to their faces, brought a smile to mine.

Since October 2020 I work in a ‘PMLD Special Educational Needs School’. Working in an environment with children with all ranges of special needs is one of the most rewarding jobs I could have ever asked for. These young adults and children give me purpose and enjoyment in my everyday life, so therefore running the marathon I feel as if I am able to give something back to them! I have chosen this charity as the work they do everyday dedicating their time to transforming lives and changing attitudes is incredible.

I am not a natural born runner... and this is the biggest physical and mental challenge I've ever taken on. Donations would be more than appreciated! And I hope to make a small difference and cross the line.
