My Story
I am proud to be running for Whizz-Kidz!
Whizz-Kidz are a fantastic charity, empowering young wheelchair users by providing the wheelchairs, equipment, support and confidence-building experiences they need, and campaigning for a more inclusive society. I fully believe in their message and their work and have heard wonderful stories from some of the young people whom they have supported.
I ran the virtual London Marathon in 2020 as my place was postponed until this year due to the pandemic. It was an awful experience where I really hurt my knee and had to finish limping a marathon distance in my home town, alone.
Since then I have run the London Marathon for a different charity in 2021 and this year I am taking on the Great North Run AND The London Marathon again for Whizz-Kidz.
When I first signed up to run for this amazing charity I was the best I had ever been at running and fitness and was so psyched for the challenge. I have struggled massively during lockdown and the pandemic with keeping up with my fitness. Running is now a huge challenge for me mentally more than anything else.
I have been leaving the house at 4am on some days to meet up with friends in order to run before the work day starts, I have run with my dog who has dragged me through hedges and mud and I have run with my daughter who completed her very own Couch to 5K challenge! I desperately want to love running again but this is currently the hardest experience I have faced...I'm still going though, I'm still training, I'm still getting up as early as I need to! I am actually starting to feel excited about the upcoming events, so wish me luck and lets raise some money for Whizz-Kidz!
