My Story

Having been brought up in the wild places of Zimbabwe, I grew fond of the bush and its inhabitants. Having that proximity to issues made me realise the needs of communities leaving so close to wildlife, in some cases with wildlife. I saw the needs of rangers as they went about their day to day work, which I admired a lot and always thought they deserved more support, at one point I wore my dad's uniform who was a ranger, it was oversized of course but for a moment, I imagined myself at the frontlines of conservation. It was a dream I wanted to live and time seemed still, not fast enough for me to be there and make the difference I thought I could make. As they say, everything has its time, I grew up and studied conservation. I joined Painted Dog Conservation and now part of a great team in Hwange, conserving the endangered painted dogs (Lycaon pictus). TUSK has been supporting Painted Dog Conservation for more than 25 years and has been consistent in their support knowing that conservation programs are long term in nature, they have supported our Children's Bush camp, Anti-poaching work, Community development programs and Research, giving us the needed capacity that I always felt as a young man is needed for men and women on the ground. In other words, they are making my dream a reality. A dream of making a difference for people and wildlife. I do hope by supporting my run, which is a challenge on its own for me (a story for another day) together we can save more wildlife and people.
