CaroEagle does London for Meningitis Now
CaroEagle does London for Meningitis Now
My Story
As a paediatric doctor who has worked in the UK and Africa, I have seen many awful cases of meningitis. Meningitis is a devestating infection causing inflammation of the lining around the brain. Children with meningitis are extremely unwell, suffering severe headaches, neck pain, and confusion which can progress to coma. They usually require intensive care, but even with the very best treatments, some children with meningitis die. Those who recover are often faced with loss of hearing or sight and somtimes loss of limbs if there is related blood poisoning (septicaemia).
Meningitis Now is carrying out vital research to help doctors like me improve the way we treat this illness, and prevent it with vaccination. They are also working to raise awareness, so parents can spot meningitis early. As both an Ealing Eagle and a Paediatrician, I am proud and excited to run the London Marathon with the Eagles, supporting such a great charity. Not getting a ballot place almost seems like a blessing in disguise, now that I have the opportunity to fundraise for such a worthy cause! Please follow my training on strava & my blog and thanks so much in advance for any donations!!
