Ashton Swims 10KM & Runs the London Marathon in One Week For The Free Representation Unit (FRU)

My Story

In the final week of September, I will be attempting to swim a marathon, and then 6 days later run the London Marathon!

The swim will take place in the Eton Dorney Lakes and the full 10km distance will take around 5 hours to complete. This will be my first attempt at swimming anything close to that distance.

Only a few days later I will be removing the ice strapped to my shoulders and running my first ever marathon amongst 40,000 others in the London Marathon!

Why? It's a question I've been asking myself a lot recently. However, knowing that it can help raise funds for a fantastic charity is making the training slightly more bearable.

"Tell me about the charity Ashton" I hear you scream!!

The Free Representation Unit (FRU) is a charity dedicated to providing free legal representation to those who cannot afford to pay, before Tribunals in the Greater London area where legal aid is unavailable.

I was introduced to FRU by a close friend of mine who works there, and I was in awe hearing about the fantastic work they do to help those that can’t obtain legal support. One example of a case they are helping with involves an employee who was dismissed whilst she was on maternity leave. Without your funds, she would not have advice, assistance or representation at her tribunal hearing or understand her rights in relation to pregnancy discrimination. FRU are able to provide such assistance and help many litigants in person through the tribunal process in both employment and welfare benefits law.

I’m very excited to be running and swimming my first marathon in aid of FRU to help support the incredible work they do!
