My Story

Starlight is the national children’s charity that exists to champion the importance of play and defend every seriously ill child’s right to it.

For over 30 years, Starlight have helped children and families find hope after a child is diagnosed with a serious illness. Today, the support they offer has never been needed more; from Isolation Packs to safely provide items to distract and delight children in hospital to hosting virtual parties to entertain and keep children connected with others. It could be a bottle of bubbles or a life changing experience; but it all comes down to helping kids carry on being kids.

Whilst working as a Children’s Nurse I see children with minor injuries and illnesses whilst also caring for children and their families who are experiencing life threatening and changing illnesses. Within our department we have been lucky enough to use the wonderful Starlight distraction boxes which we use on a daily basis and they make a huge difference to our patient journeys, making play for children a priority and making their stay in hospital a lot less traumatic. We use these boxes for play and distraction mainly when carrying out procedures but also just for fun throughout their stay with us. It means a lot to be able to run the marathon for such a wonderful and well-deserving charity that I know first-hand makes such a huge difference to so many lives, with the distraction boxes being just one thing the charity provides for sick children!

Anyone who knows me well knows that running the London Marathon in 2022 is going to be a huge challenge but I am so excited to take it on!

Any support or donations would be greatly appreciated, and please spread the word!

Please visit the Starlight Charity website to read more about what they provide and why they are such a good cause. They also host lots of other events so get involved where you can!
