My Story

On Sunday 2nd October, I will be running the 2022 London Marathon, raising money for Winchester Hospice. This will be my first marathon and the training is on track, but intense! I have run for many years, but never these distances -this is a whole new challenge! Everyone has been very encouraging, but I know the motivation to not only complete the marathon, but also raise money for such an important local cause, will drive me on.

Winchester Hospice opened last September, following the success of a £4.4million community-backed fundraising campaign which saw Burrell House transformed into a 10-bed inpatient hospice. Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity (WHFC) is now raising at least £500,000 each year towards the cost of delivering the enhanced palliative and end of life care and support for patients and their loved ones.

Having lost both my parents in my early 20s, I know that hospice care is of the utmost importance. Such facilities offer support, care and dignity to those who need it, and their families, at the times when they are at their most vulnerable. My Dad was fortunate enough to benefit from St Christopher's Hospice community care as well as Macmillan care. Nobody likes to think of 'end-of-life' care, but for those who need it, it's essential.

So, for Winchester Hospice, and in memory of my Mum and Dad... 26.2 miles is not far from being achieved!

Any donations will be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
