About us
Oasis’ work around the UK spans from youth work to housing, food projects to mebtal health work and education to reforming youth justice. We partner with hundreds of other organisations, we work with local and national government. We see ourselves as a movement - not a service provider - and we like nothing more than when local people get involved and start running th eporjects we set up. Oasis is made up of tens of thousands of local people, young and old, who are building community together.
Founded in 1985 by Rev Stave Chalke, we’ve set up lots of different charities that work together to fulfil our goal of building thriving communities.
Today Oasis has:
- 52 Oasis primary and secondary academies serving 32,000 students across the country. Many are in areas with high levels of need
- 39 Oasis community centres linked to the academies running support projects for families, children and youth
- Services for people who are homeless
- Projects in India, Mozambique, Uganda, Kyrgyzstan and Belgium
- Stop The Traffik which campaigns against human trafficking
What shapes Oasis UK is our passionate belief that each human being is uniquely valuable and of equal importance. It informs our inclusive ethos, which we hope is obvious wherever and whenever someone encounters Oasis and permeates through everything we do.
Our five ethos values are:
- A passion to include everyone
- A desire to treat everyone equally, respecting differences
- A commitment to healthy and open relationships
- A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
- A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul
