About us
Welcome to the Gurkha Welfare Trust's London Marathon Brigade 2022!
On Sunday 2nd October, our team of 6 will follow the iconic 26.2 mile course around London, joining over 1 million runners who have crossed the line since the historic race first began in 1981.
This once in a lifetime opportunity will not only bring the physical and mental health benefits of being active, but also the chance to 'give back' to the Gurkha veterans who put their lives on the line for Great Britain. In 2019 the London Marathon raised £66.4 million for charity, setting a new Guinness World Record for an annual one-day fundraising event for a 13th successive year. We're delighted our fundraisers will contribute to what we hope will be another record-breaking year for fundraising!
Each dedicated runner has pledged to raise £2500 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust. These funds could help our team in Nepal travel to remote hillside villages to provide medical treatment to Gurkha veterans in their own homes. We also seek to improve the lives of communities in Nepal, thorough constructing new water systems to bring clean water to thousands of doorsteps, and rebuilding schools which give Nepali children access to the education they deserve.
To our runners and their sponsors, we'd like to say a huge "Dhanyabad!" - none of our vital work would be possible without your selflessness and generosity.
