About us
. That's what those afflicted by this incredibly rare cancer are. Rare, special people fighting an illness that has no cure and variable treatment pathways. Chordoma UK (www.chordoma-uk.org) is the only UK registered charity to provide a voice and support network 100% dedicated to chordoma patients, their families and loved ones. Chordoma has no boundaries, it does not discriminate on age, ethnicity, sex, or sexual orientation.
Chordoma is a primary bone cancer; the bones involved are the base of the skull, the vertebral bodies and spine and the bone of the sacrum and coccyx at the base of the spine. Chordoma is one of a family of cancers called sarcoma which includes cancer of the bones, muscles, cartilage and other connective tissue.
Regardless of treatment, chordoma can be an aggressive cancer which is likely to spread (metastasis) to liver, lungs, skin, bones or lymph nodes. Today, paedriatric chordoma is becoming more common and research into this little known cancer is paramount to the ultimate goal - finding a cure. Much of the ground breaking research is carried out here in London, at UCL Cancer Institute.
Since 2013, Chordoma UK has supported this research and where able has provided funds to keep research initiatives moving forward; indeed CUK supports the world's largest "follow up" of chordoma patients who provide 3 monthly blood samples for analysis.
