My Story
In 2018, my niece Ada was born. Unfortunately, it wasn't the easiest start to life for Ada and my brother's family.
Ada was born with a CMV infection, which resulted in Ada having a few complications including moderate hearing loss. Unfortunately, after many tests, the hearing loss progressed from moderate to severe/profound.
In 2020 Ada became eligible for Cochlear Implants. I know this was a tough decision for my brother and sister-in-law. They needed to make a choice for Ada which would affect her for the rest of her life. In early 2021, Ada successfully had the Cochlear Implant operation. Lately, Ada has started to learn Sign Language which seems to be her favorite way of communicating at the moment.
Ada is a loving, funny, happy girl, who keeps everyone on their toes with her curious nature. She has access to every opportunity because of her parents and the work they have put into understanding her needs with the help of the NDCS.
The NDCS have been by Ada’s parent's side for the entire journey so far, offering advice and support on tap. They are an incredible charity who are a lifeline to families with deaf children.
In October, I am going to run(try!) the London Marathon to say thank you for all they have done for Ada and for all the children in the UK with hearing loss.
Please help if you can,
Thanks
Josh
