My Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

Prior to the summer of 2011 I'd never heard of Wakefield Hospice and like most people had never given places like it much thought, that is until it is needed. My mum spent the last 4 months of her life being cared for by the lovely staff at Wakefield Hospice. From a friendly face when visiting, to the comfort they provided when things weren't going well - they truly made the last difficult months we had with my mum the best they could be.

I was completing the commissioning course at Sandhurst during her time at the hospice and would drive back to Wakefield at every opportunity. The night she passed I was away and they arranged for me to visit and say goodbye the next day - the compassion they showed was amazing and helped to make the most difficult day more manageable and I will always be so thankful to them for that.

I have wanted to raise money for the hospice since we lost my mum and this year decided it was time, and despite being in the army for 13 years I am a pretty average runner and a marathon will definitely be a challenge.

The work that they do at the hospice is incredible, they truly help families navigate the most difficult periods in their lives. Unfortunately, there isn’t much i can do for those people who have to spend their last days in a hospice but if raising a bit of money helps another family be looked after like my mum and family were during that difficult time, then it is definitely worth running a few miles for.
